Each letter in the code can represent any of three or four different letters as shown in the following table:

a	abc
d	def
g	ghi
j	jkl
m	mno
p	pqrs
t	tuv
w	wxyz

Which of the three or four letters is the correct one depends on which combination of the letters makes a sensible word. Sometimes there is more than one combination which results in a valid word. Choosing the correct word depends on the context of the rest of the message.

The decoding is made a lot easier if you have a mobile phone with 'predicative text' — just select 'Write Message' and key in the coded message.
